Water,
Sewer and Gas Departments
The Public
Works Administrator is responsible for the operation of the departments
of Public Utilities. The Utility Department is divided into Water and
Sewer Maintenance, Water Treatment and Wastewater Treatment. The Public
Works Administrator is assisted by supervisors in each of these areas.
The main responsibilities of the Water and Sewer Maintenance Department
are to read water meters and Install and maintain water distribution and
sewer collection lines. The City's Water Treatment Plant processes safe,
clean water for the citizens. In order to supply the safest drinking water
possible, the Water Treatment Plant using state of the art process controls.
Well water is the source of our raw water. The Town's Wastewater Treatment
Plant is an attractive, well-maintained facility located south of Lumpkin.
The City is persistent in its efforts to make our environment cleaner.
Well-trained Utility Department employees must meet rigid certification
requirements established by the State of Georgia.
Streets
and Sanitation Departments
The Street
Department is responsible for the maintenance of all streets in the City.
This Department is also responsible for traffic signs, street signs and
traffic lights. The Street Department also maintains storm drains and
provides sidewalk maintenance. The Department will pick up leaves raked
to the street. We ask that they be placed behind the curb. The Sanitation
Department is responsible for the collection of all residential and commercial
solid waste. Each residence is provided with a 100-gallon rollout container
that will be emptied at curbside once each week by our Sanitation Department.
